Some snapshots of the Melbourne Show

May 22, 2010 | A day in my life, Blog

Aaaaaah,  it feels like ages ago already so I thought I’d better post some photos from the Melbourne Stitches and Craft Show before I forget how much fun it was!

I ran out of space in my luggage so I had to Express post my patterns down to myself! Here is the before and after shots of the stand… and Prince Charming getting in on the action – as always!!!

My next door neighbour was Michaela from Wren’s Nest Studio who makes the most amazing quilts from paper.

Michaela sews the paper quilts with golden thread then uses a butterfly stamp to cut out these 3-D butterfly wings.

My other neighbours included…

Nic from Yardage design, who designs and prints her own range of fabric, Gemma from Oz Handmade, which is an online craft market for Aussie handmade goods, Jodie (and her louder (?) friend, Annie) from Ric Rac, who makes all sorts of beautiful things from felt including dolls and softies, and kept us entertained .. and fed with lot of snacky things : ) Also in the pic is Holly from twocheeseplease not a neighbour but another crafty designer who featured in a craft lab making cute little needle felted bird’s nest brooches.

It was great to see some familiar Indie faces…

…Trish and Alan of Trishalan designs. I saw more of Alan at this show as Trish was teaching a very successful course on “Teaching Craft” …Kristen of Kristen Doran Design, Lisa of theredthread.com who did not want me to take her pic!, Kate from  twolittlebanshees, and Tegan from Ink and Spindle, Julie and Mum, from Juicy Roo who I didn’t manage to photograph – so Julie’s woky’s are in the pic in their place, and last but not least, the lovely sock-obsessed Claire from Craftschmaft.

Being on my own at the stand meant minimal time for browsing and socialising but I managed to meet some more ‘Indies’ – Michelle the crayon chick, with her funky crochet necklaces and Sanda and Sharon from Pepperberry&Co. Sandra is off overseas in 2 week’s time as a Link Nomad. I thought she was just travelling the world, not trying to change it! Sandra will be hosting a “Crafting for a cause” craft lesson in Melbourne, May 27, where you can make a paper lampshade and assist a worthy cause at the same time. You can find out more about what this truly inspiration crafter is getting up to on her Pepperberry & Co blog.

Well, I have to say it was an amazing show. What a lovely bunch of people to spend 5 crazy, craft-filled days with! It went past in a complete blur and before I could get my bearings in Melbourne, I was back on the plane home to Brissie, vowing to be back next year!
I want to say a huge thank you to all the FFF fans who popped in to say ‘Hi’  – it was fun to feel a teeny weeny bit like a softie-celeb!!! And to everyone who purchased a pattern, THANKS a MILLION – I hope you have fun making your very own Funky Friends!

’til next time,
Happy sewing,
Pauline
