Nov 30, 2024 | Blog, Competitions & Giveaways

Are you ready to see some cute soft toy creations? This post shows off the best makes of October 2024. Scroll down to the end to see the winner! Along the way you’ll see custom toys made for lucky kids and keepsakes that preserve memories. You can learn how to make a toy from neck ties and how to perfectly match stripes across seams by clicking the included blog post links with the relevant toy examples.

Let’s take a look…

Kip the Keepsake DOG is a newest Funky Friends Factory pattern, but he’s already been used for LOTS of creative keepsake projects and this one is especially fun! Lisa Brumpton used dog show ribbons sewn together for this Kip the Keepsake Dog. This project definitely took some extra time, but the results are stunning.

Kip the Keepsake DOG has lots of space to add embroidery or customization. Betty Groocock wanted to use extra tiny baby clothes for her Kip, so she reduced him to 80%. SHe included a 2nd photo of her smaller size Kip with his new tiny owner.

Aristotle Axolotl is a big favorite with kids. This curious little water creature always has a permanent smile on his face. Kathleen Mahan made this super cuddly orange version of the smiley guy.
.

Laura Breyley used a custom color combination on this Axolotl that she sewed for her child’s birthday. What a memorable gift! Her note says she found the pattern easy to sew – that’s great!

Plaid and paw prints combine to make a Puppy Dog Pete that’s certainly worthy of “puppy love.” Pauline Bullock sent in this delightful toy dog photo.

A Funky Friends Factory pattern can be used to sew a special custom gift for almost any recipient, including farmers who own cute goats! This isn’t the first photo we’ve seen of a Giddy Goat soft toy sewn as a gift for the owner of a cute kid (goat “kid” in this case). Jenn Bilodeau used a soft brown minky and tan fleece to sew her goat.

Karen Hitchcock Warren sewed this beautiful Belinda Butterfly as a gift for her daughter’s college roommate. Looks like Belinda has a great new home!

We see lots of cute witch doll in October because it’s Halloween!🎃

I love the happy little face on this Whitney Witch sewn by Jenn Bilodeau. Whitney’s outfit has festive pizzaz with plaid leggings, a night sky dress and candy corn shirt. Her seasonal hat certainly caps it all off.

Janet O’Neil Conlon‘s Whitney Witch is ready for a fashionable trick-or-treat night in her colorful pumpkin dress. Use you favorite Halloween novelty prints to make clothes for Whitney Witch.

Wow, that’s a fantastic and fitting desert setting for Dynamite the Donkey. I love the bright, large pattern fabric Janice Telfer used to sew him.

You can customize a big batch of monster toys for your favorite little monster with the Mix & Match Monsters pattern. Emma Holt used a range of colors and eye types in these gifts for her grandkids. I’m bet each toy was carefully planned for the new owners’ favorite colors and designs.

We had some super cute memory bears this month!

Everybody loves a toy made from neck ties, and Laura Peters Cartoscelli did an excellent job on this one. Melody Memory Bear Pattern works especially well for ties due to the size of her pieces. It’s a time-consuming project, but worth the effort to unpick and use neck ties as fabric.

Sue Stonehouse matched up the stripes on this Melody Memory Bear Pattern perfectly by using a technique called “fussy-cutting.” She added that she had never heard the term before making Funky Friends. (If you’d like to learn just one way to do fussy-cutting, watch this video HERE!

This Keep Me Keepsake Bear pattern  sewn by Mary Coleman shows of cherished baby clothes. The single piece center panel allows you to feature a t-shirt or onesie design. The pattern pieces for the footpads, tummy, arms, and sides all include grids to help you center an embroidery machine hoop or fabric designs.

These bright bears sewn by Aleisha Marie Bain got a lot of attention in our online fan club. The Keep Me Keepsake Bear pattern allows you to highlight lots of aspects of favorite clothes like these. The pattern has a “No-seam” tummy piece inset that you can use to display a onesie or t-shirt graphic. The large back pieces also provide lots of space, as do the arms and footpads. This was a great pattern choice for these clothes with lots of graphics on them!💙
