Apr 24, 2016 | Blog, NEW Toy Patterns

Let me introduce my Alice ALPACA and Lloyd LLAMA sewing pattern!

Riley-Blake-fabric---alpaca-pattern

If you had asked me –

“what is the difference between a llama and an alpaca?”

– I wouldn’t have been able to tell you before I decided to design a toy pattern for them!

Whenever I design a stuffed animal I do a bit of Google research to work out the defining characteristics of that animal so I can include those features in my toy design and this time I had to do a comparison! So let’s see!

LLAMAS are:

  • LARGER,
  • have LONGER ears
  • and LONGER faces!

ALPACAS have:

  • AWESOME fible/fur
  • and are also more AMICABLE (friendlier!).

I also found out some interesting things about alpacas and llamas – both are camelids and both can

SPIT at you!

There you have it!!!!!!

😀

I have also created a photo tutorial to show you just how to sew a stuffed toy Llama and Alpaca!

The Llama & Alpaca Sewing Pattern is available from the website as a Downloadable Pattern now.

I wonder which is your favourite – the Llama or Alpaca?

Happy Sewing,

Wow! Imagine that! We went away for the weekend and just this morning part of our getaway included a visit at the Dutch Village in Holland, Michigan where they have a small petting zoo. We saw both a llama and an alpaca there. Then I come home and open my e-mail and see the new patterns for a llama and an alpaca. Is this kismet?

The llama perked up his/her ears and moved closer as we approached. He/she seemed quite fascinated with our pup.

    Pauline~

Would you please post some pictures to show the back and sides of your llama/alpaca? I’d really like to see (and I’m sure others would, too) how the tail lays and also how the legs look before I order (and it’s more than likely that I will). I’m thinking, too, that these little guys would look great in a Sherpa fabric.

Thanks, much appreciated. And by the way, it happens to be “Hug An Australian Day” so hugs to you, or any nearby koala.

OMG! I can NOT believe this! I’ve been living in this tiny village with a population of about 1,200 people (yes, tiny; we have only one blinker light in town) for over 24 years and I just found out we are home to the Michigan INTERNATIONAL Alpaca Fest! They will be holding their 21st annual fest this October at the sport and expo complex that is literally only 2.2 miles from my home!

    It boggles the mind…😆

Great pattern but as a llama owner that deals with both I would say that llamas are indeed quite Llovable!

Oh, Jessie, I haven’t really had any experience with real Llamas, (only know what I read online) so that’s good to know, next time I meet one! 😀
