We start with some super cute Highland Cow toys.

This happy herd of Harmony Highland Cows was a huge hit with Cindy Breaux Beville‘s Maltese!

Harmony the Highland Cow can look really different based on the type of fabric you use. The herd above was made in minky. Dawn Nelson’s Harmony, below, was made with long pile faux fur. Definitely not a task for a beginner!

Now for some unicorns…

Ginny Murphy always posts lovely toys, and her first try at Fifi Fox was no exception. This is a great example of a “non-bear” baby clothes keepsake. Fifi Fox’s chest space provides a fine “upfront and center” spot for short text details, as shown here.

The Kelsey Kepsake Unicorn pattern is a perfect choice for both baby clothes and fanciful cotton fabrics. Jeannette T. used sparkly quilting cotton for her Kelsey. The included tutu pattern worked out great on this cutie.

 

Here’s another beautiful Kelsey Kepsake Unicorn made from quilting cotton. Louise Mack used some faux flowers around the horn instead of the included felt flowers, and her color matching is stunning! 

 

What an adorable frog print on the arms of this clothing version of Kelsey Kepsake Unicorn sewn by Jonell Hart. I bet those were some special pajamas or leggings belonging to the unicorn’s new owner.

If you’ve got lots of bold prints for a keepsake, but you’re not sure how they’ll all go together, try the Scrap Snake Sewing Pattern! He’s an easy pattern and you can make him as long as you need. This bright slithery guy was sewn by Marieke Moerman.

School’s out in most parts of the world right now, so we’ve been seeing lots of sweet school uniform keepsakes posted online, like this Kiki Koala sewn by Kirsty Louise Allen. A school logo can usually fit on many different places on a toy pattern, so compare the logo size to your pattern pieces to find the best spot.

Look at the perfect eye placement on this version of Digger Dachshund sewn by Jan Hoffman. Jan arranged the pattern piece on the fabric so the eye position would line up with the flower center. This is called “fussy-cutting.”

We had some super cute memory bears this month!

This was Cynthia Nunemaker’s first time using the Melody Memory Bear Pattern, and the baby girl clothing she selected makes for a stylish keepsake worthy of sitting on a nursery shelf.

 

 

Christine Whitehead did a superb job on her first Melody Memory Bear! She used 5 items of baby clothes for this toy.

 

Heather Boulton expertly arranged the wildly different fabric designs in this Melody Memory Bear. The primary colors make this an extra cheerful toy.

 

Margaret Robinson used not one, but two different flag fabrics to show off her love for her country on this Melody Memory Bear.

 

Wow! There’s so much customization on this version of the Melody Memory Bear sewn by Jayne Dixon. First, there’s cute arrangement or clothing details, especially on the arm. Next, there’s a photo on one foot, Third, there’s glitter text in heat transfer vinyl. Finally, the toy is also weighted to birth weight.

This photo of 2 Buttons the BEST DRESSED Bears has a lovely story. Sue Farley Smith sewed these bears from the clothes of a recently passed 103 year-old military veteran who she visited each week. I’m sure his loved ones love the bears! 

 

Many people ask if you can make Buttons the BEST DRESSED Bear as a girl bear. Sure you can! Just use feminine clothing, as seen in these two bears sewn by Emma Boulton.

 

This Buttons BEST DRESSED Bear was sewn by Wendy Crookes in memory of her father, who had a large collection of ties. The pattern comes with a bow tie, but you can use the Funky Friends Factory free neck tie pattern )from the Free Patterns page ) on any Funky Friend!

Ixora T. Likes to upcycle clothes when sewing toys. Here you can see the “before” and “after.” For this Ben BEGINNER teddy bear she took advantage of the “no seam” tummy piece to show off the design from a child’s shirt.

 

Ben BEGINNER teddy bear doesn’t have to be a memory bear…he looks great in regular fabric and just a single print. Sandra Fordham used a plush minky fabric for her pink Ben, and it looks extra soft.
