This month’s Maker of the Month finalists include a happenin’ bunch of hedgehogs, thoughtful gifts for all ages, and a real first here at Funky Friends Factory: a glow-in-the-dark wombat!
Let’s start off with hedgehogs a plenty! Stacey Quick Hayes made some fabulous fabric choices on this stylish and coordinated Hannah Hedgehog. I like the matching purple ears and feet.
Dawn Rimby used baby clothes to make this Hannah Hedgehog Keepsake. Hannah’s large side pieces work well for showing off a fabric with special memories attached. I particularly love the smiley face on this toy.
Elsa M. made her first Hannah Hedgehog with some stained glass style fabric… and from her perch in the window you can see how big this pattern is! This hedgie is a gift for Elsa’s mom, who she says is “hedgehog mad!”

A hedgehog may be a great gift for moms, but Louise Jay Howling reports that she’s very popular with her nephew after making him this Minecraft video game themed Melody Memory Bear. Based on the wildly positive reaction this bear got when Louise posted it in the Funky Friends Factory Patterns Fan Club group on Facebook, this type of bear would get rave reviews from lots of kids.

I love the thoughtfulness of this next “special gift” Funky Friend. Jayne Cash made this blinged-up version of Patch Pussycat for a friend’s 60th birthday. Can you tell the friend’s favorite color is teal? Such an artful application of the birthday text, too!

Keep Me Keepsake Bear doesn’t have to be made as a special gift, but I designed lots of space for embroidery on the arms, feet, and sides (as well as the big single-piece tummy panel) to capture memories the way Lisa Anderson has with this cheerful bear.

Got a tech-loving friend or teen who needs a unique gift? Why not make Ollie Owl and present him as a tablet stand, like Sonja Luijten did! Ollie can hold lots of stuff for you. He also likes cookbooks!

This Licorice Lemur by Trish McBride makes me laugh! His posable limbs can be used for lots of fun photo opportunities.

I never would have thought that a Wodger Wombat made in glow-in-the-dark UFO fabric would somehow be a perfect fit, but Abby Haines made it work. And did you read the recent science studies that REAL wombats have phosphorescent properties that make them actually glow at night? Totally true and very cool!

AND this month’s winner is…
Since we all know teaching someone to sew is a gift that lasts a lifetime, let’s celebrate it with this month’s winner – a combo mom and daughter team! Hayley Sayers taught her daughter to sew (by hand) and nine-year-old Rebecca made this Dizzy Dolphin all by herself! (Mom helped with a ladder stitch on the stuffing gap, but Rebecca did the rest on her own). Excellent job Hayley and Rebecca! You win a free Funky Friends Factory pattern of your choice.
CONGRATS Rebecca and Hayley! You win

I love to see photos of the toys that people have sewn from my soft toy patterns…
So please post some pics on my Facebook Page!!! 😀
Till next time, happy sewing,
